August, 2024 | Habitat Nantucket Awards Four Homes to Nantucket Families
Habitat for Humanity Nantucket, Inc. is pleased to announce the four families selected to receive Habitat's newest affordable homes. Waitt Drive Village is a development of six dwellings on three lots deeded to Habitat by the Town of Nantucket earlier this year. Comprising four single-family homes and a central two-unit duplex the project will bring to twenty-two the number of homes Habitat Nantucket has built on Nantucket since 2001.
The award of these four homes completes the first phase of Habitat's Affordable Fair Housing Marketing Plan for the project. The two duplex units will be offered to Nantucket families in a similar process in early 2025. All six homes will be included on Nantucket's Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI) list, helping the Town stay in "safe harbor".
Habitat received over 40 applications during the May 15-July 15th marketing period. After initial review, thirty-three Nantucket residents and two non-Islanders qualified for the Lottery, which was held on August 1, 2024. The Lottery conformed to EOHLC (Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities) guidelines.
Following their selection in the Lottery the applicants went through a final review by Habitat's Family Selection Committee which included a site visit. Each of the selected families was then reviewed and certified by the EOHLC.
The winning families are:
5A Waitt Drive (3BR) - Milana Capan
5B Waitt Drive (2BR) - David Cunningham and Natasha Levens
9A Waitt Drive (3BR) - Yadira Fernandez
9B Waitt Drive (2BR) - Andre and Camila Pereira
All four winning families are required to volunteer 350 hours of "sweat equity" towards the completion of their homes. Habitat expects to complete construction and be able to close on the transfer of the homes between December 2024 and February 2025.
March 2023
Habitat Nantucket completed our Benjamin Drive project in March 2023 as three lucky homeowners: Dennis and Shannon Reid, Eliza Trip and Forest Bell took possession of their Homes. They were the 14th ,15th and 16th Habitat homeowners on Nantucket
